What is a Blog?

With more and more people jumping into the work at home online opportunity, it is known that having a blog and blogging is one of the fastest way to start.

Everywhere you turn, people are talking about blog. Newspapers, websites, evening news and even magazines are now jumping on the blog band wagon. However, what exactly is a blog and why should you want to have one, especially if you are thinking of doing an online business?

In general, a blog is an online journal where you can post information that you want to share with others. This information can be anything from recipes to expressing your opinion about worldly matters.

Creating a blog is a very simple process. All you need to do is join a blogging website, choose a template, post the information you want to share, and hit the "publish" button. There are dozens of places that allow bloggers to use their blogging software for free. One of the most popular free blogging sites is Google's, Blogger at www.blogger.com.

Most blog software has built-in templates and features that allow the user to simply type in the information they want to share. Some blogging software allows users to post pictures, video and audio files on their blogs.

Unlike websites, which are made up of numerous individual pages; blogs are made up of only one template. This makes it easy for blog owners to create new pages, because the template has a fixed setting that already includes things like the title, category, and a place to post information.

Basically a blog contains these features:

  • Title - allows users to create a title for each blog post they create.

  • Body - the area where users post their content.

  • Trackback - allows other blog owners to link back to the user's blog.

  • Permanent Link - this is the URL or hyperlink created for each blog post.

  • Comments - allows others to post comments to the user's blog. Oftentimes this feature can be turned on or off to suit the blogger's needs.

Blogs can be used to share information with family and friends, or to market products and services. Most blogs are focused on one specific, or niche topic.

If you decide to use a blog to market your business, make certain you remain professional at all times. Check your spelling and grammar. Proof it before you post it. If you find a mistake, fix it. What you present on your blog is just as important as what you present on your web site.

2. Can you tweet this, tell others, and ask them what they think to?

Till next time......

How To Blog?

To put it simply, a blog is like an online journal. It is a place for you to put up information and share it with other people. There is no hard and fast rules what exactly you can put on your blog but is will be good if the information on your blog focus on the niche or topic that you pick.

It is a very simple process. You first need to download a blogging software or join a blogging website. For a newbie in blogging, using a pre-made template is generally a preferred option.
Many blogging websites allow bloggers to use their software for free. Others charge a nominal fee. Free blogging software usually has certain limitations; whereas fee-based blogging websites offer a broader range of flexibility and options.

There are dozens of places that allow bloggers to use their blogging software for free. One of the most popular free blogging sites is Google's, Blogger at www.blogger.com. Blogger offers step-by-step instructions on how to blog. They provide pre-made templates for the novice; while advanced users have the option to design their own blog template.
Typepad is a paid blogging service, which allows users a great deal of flexibility. Users can choose from a variety of pre-made templates, or they can design their own. Typepad has different types of plans which allow users to create one blog, three blogs, or unlimited blogs. To learn more about Typepad, visit their website at: www.Typepad.com.

Another popular and free blogging service is Wordpress, available at www.Wordpress.com. Bloggers can use the Wordpress templates and post blog entries directly at the Wordpress website. They can also download the software to their computer, where they can create their blog off-line, then upload the files directly to a web hosting service.

Once you have selected your blogging software, you'll want to take some time to familiarize yourself with how the software works. Most blogging software is as easy to use as word processing software.

When selecting a name for your blog, choose one that is easy to remember or purchase a domain name and redirect it to your blog. For instance if your blog is about baking cookies, you might want to name it "The Baking Cookies Blog." Your blog URL would be http://thebakingcookiesblog.nameofbloghost.com. The blogging software you are using will normally add their name to the end of your blog. As you can see, this makes for a lengthy and difficult to remember web address.

If you purchase the domain name of "BakingCookiesBlog.com" and redirect it to your blog, it will be much easier for you to promote.

Blogging is relatively straight-forward and easy to use. When you are learning how to blog, don't be afraid to experiment and try new things. Most blogging software will provide you with instructions on how to add graphics, code, audio and video. Once you become familiar with these tools, the rest will easily fall into place.

The next step you need to take is monetize your blog so that you can start earning money from blogging. The process is so much simpler than you think. I highly recommend you get the free video instructions to how to start your own "Set-It and Forget-It Blog" cash machines. Just click on "How To Start A Blog".

Ok then....till next time.
